Accompanying herself on guitar and mountain dulcimer, her crystal-clear voice continues to mesmerize audiences, as they listen in rapt attention or sing along with very little coaxing.
Rogers’ rich and influential career continues at full speed as she performs solo, with her husband Howie Bursen, with long-time buddy Claudia Schmidt, or as part of The First Time Stringband.

Sally Rogers and Howie Bursen have been a performing duo since they met in 1981 in a Greenwich Village coffeehouse. They play both traditional American and original songs and tunes to delight audiences from their home in Connecticut to far-reaching places like Hungary and Israel! Bursen is recognized as one of the top melodic clawhammer banjo players in the nation. Together, these two sing in spine-tingling harmonies with just the right amount of instrumental spice. The First Time Stringband is an ever changing roster of incredibly talented musicians. At the core are melodic clawhammer banjo player, Howie Bursen, rhythm guitar player and singer, Sally Rogers (they sing their waltzes!), and harmonica, bones and foot stomper, Deck Naiforth (he also builds remarkable fiddles!). When he’s not in New Zealand, fiddler Jeff Davis is a driving force, and when he IS in New Zealand, Dan Lanier from Rhode Island takes his place with the same drive and a New England sensibility. They have been known to add other friends to an evening of contradancing, hence the name. It’s always like the First Time! The First Time Stringband is available for concerts and contradances.
